Velvet Hair Bows, Part 2: Fall Work & Weekend Outfits

A button-down shirt on Monday, a soft sweater on Saturday: a velvet bow can work with both. The difference is how you balance its shape with your clothes and where you place it in your hair. This second guide puts three other VeryShine designs into everyday fall outfits, from a quiet office half-up style to an easy weekend ponytail.

If you are still comparing bow shapes and fastenings, start with Part 1: Velvet Hair Bows for Fall. Here, we will build outfits around a narrow barrette, a fuller silk velvet bow and an adjustable bow scrunchie.

1. The weekday uniform: a narrow bow with a shirt and trousers

Try a cream shirt, charcoal trousers and loafers with a slim velvet bow at the back of your hair. The long, flat shape follows the clean lines of the outfit. A cardigan makes the same combination feel softer for a casual office or a day working from a café.

The narrow flat velvet bow french bow barrette has a layered velvet bow approximately 4.72 × 0.78 inches (12 × 2 cm), with a steel French barrette approximately 3.14 × 0.27 inches (8 × 0.7 cm). Its shallow silhouette keeps the decoration restrained without relying on sparkle.

The pink option shows the slim bow's scale; black, navy, burgundy and green were also in stock when this guide was prepared.

Wear it half-up: bring the side sections toward the center, leaving the lower length loose. Place the barrette horizontally so the bow sits evenly. Keep the section modest if your hair is dense; the decoration's width does not tell you the clasp's capacity. For a ponytail, secure it with your usual elastic and use the bow as the finishing detail.

2. Friday to weekend lunch: a fuller black silk velvet bow

For a less formal workday, pair dark straight-leg jeans with a plain knit top and a tailored jacket. A fuller black bow gives the outfit a focal point behind the head, while the simple neckline keeps everything easy to wear. On Saturday, swap the jacket for a cardigan and keep the same hairstyle.

The Handmade Black Silk Velvet Layered Bow French Hair Barrette is made with soft silk velvet and a layered shape. The bow measures approximately 6.29 × 3.93 inches (16 × 10 cm); its steel barrette is approximately 3.93 inches (10 cm) long. It is the most substantial-looking bow of these three.

Style around the neckline: with a collared shirt, place the bow high enough that the lower edge clears the collar. With an open cardigan or crewneck sweater, a lower gathered section can look relaxed. Check how the bow sits against your jacket before leaving; a bulky scarf may need a little more space.

For thick or curly hair, gather only the section the clasp closes around comfortably. Let the remaining curls fall naturally. If you want a full ponytail, have a separate elastic carry the hair rather than forcing the barrette closed.

3. Saturday errands and brunch: an adjustable velvet bow ponytail

A low ponytail, an oatmeal sweater and dark denim make an easy weekend combination. Burgundy velvet gives that neutral outfit some color; navy is a quieter choice with a striped top. Tie a compact bow for errands, then let the tails sit a little longer for lunch.

The velvet bow knot scrunchies falling tail hair tie scrunchy hair accessories has a velvet strap that can be adjusted into a bow knot or worn with falling tails. The scrunchie is approximately 3.93 inches (10 cm) in diameter, and the strap is approximately 23.62 inches (60 cm) long.

Try it in two steps: gather the ponytail at a comfortable height, then arrange the strap so the knot faces outward. Keep the tails clear of your coat collar or shoulder bag. If the scrunchie alone does not hold your hair comfortably, use a familiar elastic underneath and let the velvet finish the style.

Make the hairstyle fit your hair

With fine strands or lower-density hair, start with a small secured half-up section or a ponytail held by an elastic you trust. The narrow bow has a slimmer visual profile, but none of these designs comes with a universal grip guarantee. With thick hair, allow enough room for the clasp to close without pressure. For short layers, a partial gather may be more practical than a full ponytail.

You do not need a new outfit for each bow. Choose one detail to repeat—a dark shoe, a burgundy knit or the straight line of a shirt collar—and let the rest stay familiar. Velvet works just as well with a light blouse on a warm fall afternoon as with a sweater on a cool morning.
