Will It Stay Secure All Day?
One of the most common questions brides ask is whether a hair accessory will survive a full wedding day — ceremony, reception, dancing, outdoor photos, and all. The honest answer depends on your hair type, placement technique, and the style you choose. Here's what to know.
By Hair Type
- Fine hair: Lightweight pieces like combs and bobby pins grip best when placed into sections with light-hold hairspray applied first. Avoid very heavy embellishments that can slip. Add a few extra pins in a crossed pattern for security.
- Normal hair: Most styles work well. Headbands, clips, and combs all anchor reliably with proper placement into sections rather than over the top of hair.
- Thick hair: Hair claws and combs with wider teeth grip thick hair more effectively than narrow pins. Place the comb or claw into a pinned or twisted section to prevent shifting.
- Curly hair: Textured hair actually holds accessories very well. Push combs and pins deep into curls, and choose open-tooth claws or combs that work with the curl pattern rather than against it.
Accessory Type Guide
- Headbands: Best for updos and half-up styles. Choose a band with inner grip teeth or velvet lining. Position behind the hairline rather than on top to prevent sliding. Our oval pearl and rhinestone bridal headband and pearl rhinestone bridal headband feature grip structures suited to full-day wear.
- Hair combs & tiaras: Slide the comb teeth into a pinned or braided section, then bend the comb slightly to lock into hair. For updos, insert at an angle so the teeth cross through multiple layers. The bridal comb tiara works best anchored into a finished updo.
- Hair claws: Ideal for relaxed updos and thick hair. Clamp over a twisted or coiled section rather than loose hair. The pearl beaded bridal hair claw and pearl flower hair claw are designed for elegant all-day wear.
- Clips and barrettes: Push the clip fully closed after threading through a section. For fine hair, use a criss-cross bobby pin beneath the clip for extra hold. The pearl rhinestone bobby pin set pairs well with clips for added security.
Wind & Movement
No accessory can be guaranteed wind-proof, but you can reduce shift significantly by: securing the base section with bobby pins before placing the accessory, using a light-hold finishing spray after placement, and avoiding placing pieces on the very top of the head where wind catches most easily.
Trial-Run Checklist
We recommend doing a full trial with your chosen accessory before the wedding day:
- ☐ Wear it for at least 3–4 hours, including movement and dancing
- ☐ Test in conditions similar to your venue (outdoors, humid, air-conditioned)
- ☐ Practice removal and re-placement so you or your stylist can adjust on the day
- ☐ Note which bobby pin placement kept it most secure
- ☐ Pair with the hairstyle you plan to wear — placement varies significantly between updos, half-up, and down styles
Results vary by hair type, texture, and styling products used. A professional bridal stylist can advise on the best anchoring technique for your specific hair and chosen accessory.
